Canada Day, Banff & Lake Louise (1st July)

Canada Day in the Rockies

The natural beauty, heritage, and culture of Banff & Lake Louise make for a fantastic setting to experience Canada Day on July 1. There is no better way to celebrate than being amongst the mountains and lakes that have defined images of Canada around the world.

IN BANFF

Begin your day by devouring a pile of pancakes and maple syrup at the annual pancake breakfast. Stomach full, take in the colour and energy of the famous Canada Day parade down Banff Avenue which starts at 11:30 a.m. Next, make yourself comfortable in Central Park as local musicians and cultural performances fill the valley with sound from noon well into the evening.

The celebrations come to a grand finale with a spectacular fireworks display. Watching the sunset and fireworks illuminate the valley and mountains surrounding Banff is a magical event not to be missed.

IN LAKE LOUISE

Start your day by feasting at the annual pancake breakfast hosted by the Lake Louise Fire Department. Be sure to catch the flag raising and national anthem at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, before enjoying the parade on Village Road. The afternoon is full of performances and family activities on the lawns of the Lake Louise Sport and Recreation centre.

For the more adventurous, test your fortitude by taking a plunge into the icy waters of Lake Louise – a long held Canada Day tradition in these parts.
